Meet Jake

Your S.T.E.M. Learning Partner

Hi, I’m Jake! I hold a Master’s in Human Health & Nutritional Sciences and a Bachelor’s in Biology, which I earned while competing as a CUFLA and Division 1 student-athlete. Over the past five years, I’ve gained valuable experience as a Private School Teacher and Administrator, developing a unique ability to adapt lessons to diverse learning styles.

My tutoring journey was born out of a desire to help students excel academically and find joy in exploring STEM subjects. Through Genuine Tutoring With Jake, I’m dedicated to assisting students in unlocking their potential and achieving their academic goals.

My Mission

“My mission at Genuine Tutoring With Jake is straightforward: to make STEM subjects engaging and enjoyable for every student while nurturing confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning in all my students.”

My Philosophy

“I believe that every student has the ability to excel—it all comes down to how the material is taught and the connection between the teacher and student. My approach emphasizes the importance of building a genuine partnership with each learner. I don’t see myself as just a teacher but as a fellow student exploring the material together. By removing the pressure of hierarchy, I create an environment where students feel empowered to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow without judgment.

In my sessions, I focus on:

  • Simplifying Complexity: Breaking down challenging STEM concepts into relatable, easy-to-understand ideas.

  • Building Connections: Establishing trust and mutual respect to make learning more collaborative and engaging.

  • Confidence Building: Helping students overcome academic hurdles with patience, support, and encouragement.

By fostering a shared journey of exploration, I aim to inspire curiosity and a sense of achievement in every student I work with.”

“Since childhood, my first love has always been sports. It took great teachers who could make learning fun and practical to instill my passion for education.

I believe every student can love learning, but they need the right person to connect their passions to an academic discipline. I’ve learned that the secret to enjoying school starts with how the material is delivered and taught.”

Born and raised in Guelph, Ontario, Jake was always busy playing rep lacrosse and hockey, which became a great sense of pride and his identity. He always enjoyed school but never found the same passion for academics as sports.

It was not until his first year in university that his biology professor changed his outlook on school and his sense of self. Since then, Jake has discovered a true passion for education, and his goal is to be the catalyst for his students, which his biology professor was for him, aiming to re-ignite their passion for learning and uncover the barriers to their success.
